Inspiration
Living through a difficult period such as a pandemic has caused us to want to contribute to society in any manner possible. With MyMedical, we will alleviate stress off the healthcare system to allow healthcare workers to focus on the more urgent and significant issues they may face. Moreover, MyMedical will also help ordinary citizens reach healthcare services virtually, saving them time while minimizing their risks of being infected by COVID-19.
What it does
MyMedical is an all in one healthcare virtual tool kit that ultimately brings convenience to users while alleviating pressure off of our healthcare system. Which is especially important in a pandemic. With only a few clicks away, MyMedical allows users to easily connect with doctors and book appointments. Moreover, it includes a reminder feature which helps users keep track of upcoming appointments. Additionally, we included a diagnosis function, where users will be able to fill out a form and have doctors determine their diagnosis as soon as possible.
How we built it
We built the front end with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The back end, we used Python and Flask, along with a Replit database to store our users’ information.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we faced was the confusion of different time zones. Due to this, we had to adapt and stay flexible while working. It was also hard for us to communicate effectively with each other because we would be working during different times. Moreover, due to the sudden pull out of a group member, we had to re-allocate the work load which further burdened us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team was split up into the frontend team and backend team, one accomplishment that we are especially proud of is being able to finally connect the frontend and backend together after hours of persistent teamwork and communication.
What we learned
Through this hackathon, we learned how to efficiently connect a website’s backend to it’s frontend. In addition to technical skills, we also learned the importance of communication and time management when working in a team environment.
What's next for MyMedical
-In the future, we are looking forward to expanding our reach by creating a mobile app. -We also hope to add new features that are based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to help determine the best solution for users’ diagnosis. -We also hope to add a virtual assistant bot that can help the user navigate through our web app.
