Inspiration
Our inspiration for myGardenFriend came from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG 6), Sustainable Cities & Communities (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15). We wanted to create an application that supports sustainable gardening and empowers individuals to grow their own food, conserve resources, and reduce waste. As small developers, we sought to leverage AI to make a real impact by addressing key challenges in gardening, such as soil degradation, water waste, and lack of accessible knowledge.
What it does
myGardenFriend is an AI-powered gardening assistant that helps users by:
Allowing users to input plants into the "My Plants" section Providing personalized care schedules for watering, fertilizing, and harvesting Sending reminders for plant care based on weather conditions Offering step-by-step guides on planting and growing The app reduces plant loss due to improper care, saves water and resources through optimized irrigation, and encourages urban gardening to promote local food growth.

We used Javascript, Kotlin, Android-Studio, Firebase, Gemini
Challenges we ran into
Connecting the front-end and back-end was a major challenge Developing a reliable AI model required extensive data collection and fine-tuning Balancing simplicity with depth, ensuring the app was beginner-friendly but still informative Time constraints meant that we couldn't implement all planned features or refine the UI as much as we wanted Aligning ideas among team members while ensuring all requirements were met
