Inspiration

Growing up in Los Angeles, we witness the effects of climate change often through extreme weather events and wildfires. MyESG is a way to give back to our community to help support corporations that are trying to combat the climate crisis.

What it does

MyESG is a proprietary website that sources 3rd-party ESG scores in order to help consumers make more informed decisions about the companies they interact with. You can create a customizable list of your favorite companies to learn more about their ESG profiles.

How we built it

We built the website using React, JavaScript, and CSS, leveraging a third-party API to supply the ESG information. We utilized Firebase to handle user authentication and the database to score user-selected corporations.

Challenges we ran into

We were very limited on time and resources due to this hackathon being in the midst of our finals, resulting in a plethora of bugs and limited functionality. With more time, we can iron out these small errors and allow myESG to become a powerful tool in fighting climate change.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a two-man team, we had limited manpower, but we were still able to conduct research, craft a viable idea, build an MVP from scratch with limited time and resources, and present our project.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the role corporations play in contributing to climate change and how this can be measured through a metric like ESG. We want to spread this awareness to other people so that they can be more informed about the corporations they support financially.

What's next for myESG

Due to the limited time, we were not able to implement all the functionality we had hoped for. With more time, we want to expand the information we can present to people through analytics, graphs, and additional data. We also would like to create a mobile application so that people can access this information on the go, anytime and anywhere.
