Inspiration
Oftentimes we find ourselves forgetting about clothing that has escaped our closets' recesses. Sometimes, we feel like we have no clothes despite having a mountain of them. Or there are times we find ourselves frantically shopping for new clothes when we have to go for an event and we simply cannot be caught dead repeating an outfit :P. This creates clutter, and chaos and generates a lot of textile waste. To combat this, we wanted to create an app that would enable us to be more mindful about the clothes we have and wear. The app keeps track of the clothes we have, and their condition and even suggests new outfits for different occasions.
What it does
Our application helps you:
- Track the clothes in your closet so you don’t forget that one garment that has retreated to the corner of your closet. So instead of throwing all your clothes on the floor, you can simply scroll down to find everything you need.
- Track the condition and quality of your clothes with inbuilt ML models in the app, which utilize pre-existing documentation about different clothes and their materials
- Add clothes to your closet just by taking a picture of the garment and the label. The app will automatically extract information about your garment from the label. And now you will be able to find your new clothes right in your closet
- And finally, find yourself the perfect outfit by taking the “Find me an outfit quiz!” on the app. Our app will suggest clothing based on an ML model which is based on colour combinations and clothing styles.
How we built it
Due to timing issues, we could not code out the entire app, however, we created a detailed interactive Figma prototype of the UI/UX of the app. In the future, we plan to use React Native, Firebase, Google Vision API and TensorflowJS to further build our app.
Challenges we ran into
- Understanding user demand for this type of app.
- Integrating ML algorithms
- Interfacing with the device (like opening camera etc)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created the beginnings of an app that could potentially help a lot of people as well as the earth.
What we learned
The importance of time management, and having a clear idea of a tech stack beforehand.
What's next for MyCloset
Hopefully, we can create a full-fledged application using the tools mentioned before, and deploy it for the world to use.
