Inspiration
Climate change is one of the top social issues affecting the future and presenting risks to the quality of life of people around the world. It is something most people do not think about on a daily basis or think their small actions can have an impact. We wanted to build something that helps people visualize their impact and learn about ways they can make positive changes for a more sustainable climate!
What it does
MyCarbon allows people to track their daily habits between categories of transportation, waste, recycling, water, and electricity and gain CarbonPoints for the changes they implement that positively impact the climate.
How we built it
We created wireframes using Figma, then we began building it out using react-native and react. We wanted to go mobile-first since it will be faster, quicker and more practical for users, allowing them to track their impact on the go!
Challenges we ran into
It was challenging configuring and formatting the logic for the CarbonPoints system and having the data connect to graphs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our accessibility efforts (including using high-contrast colors and large, readable fonts) and the overall mission of the app.
What we learned
We learned a lot through our teammembers' research about the current data about Carbon emissions and the past and present state of our climate.
What's next for MyCarbon
We would like to further gamify the app by allowing users to compete against friends to see you can have the better carbon footprint.
