Inspiration

One of our teammates recently started graduate school and she did not know anything about organizations which support women in tech. She spent a lot of time researching for resources that would help her succeed. Women are underrepresented in the tech field, and many of them do not have the necessary resources and mentor support. In fact, women hold 26.7% of technology jobs and 56% of them are women of color. This statistic emphasizes how important it is for women, especially minorities and people of color, to feel supported and empowered. Our teammate's story as well as the challenges we faced being women and minorities in tech inspired us to create this synchronized platform.

What it does

MyAlly is a platform that allows women to have resources and support they need at their fingertips. When the user arrives at the website, they will see the homepage which will briefly explain the features of the website as well as how to helps. Then the user can securely login in their account(which uses Okta for user authentication) and they can browse for profit and non-profit organizations. They can also connect with mentors in the work industry and receive support and advice. Furthermore, they can donate to organizations which help to empower women in tech.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS and JS to build our application.

Challenges we ran into

Most of our teammates were complete beginners and didn't have much experience building a web application.
Coming up with a feasible idea that could be implemented within the given time frame.
Using new technologies such as Bootstrap
