Inspiration

Kids are missing out on a lot of traditions, milestones and rights of passage due to the global pandemic. Kids are isolated at a time when socializing is so important to them. Even signing yearbooks is near impossible due to social distancing and remote learning so I decide to build a website that would allow students to sign yearbooks and share the experience online.

What it does

Students can invite friends and family to sign their yearbooks online by going to a personal page. Their guests can upload pictures along with their messages to the students page. Students can choose from creative designs to save the pages digitally and print them to save along with their real yearbooks. Members can search for other members to sign yearbooks and share their pages.

How I built it

I used Wix and a lot of javascript to create the custom messaging, searching and formatting features.

Challenges I ran into

I did not know much javascript but I needed a lot of features that required more than the standard Wix templates. I needed to use a lot of Corvid API calls and custom code.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that I was 1) able to put it together in such a short period of time, 2) pickup a lot of great javascript and Corvid skills quickly, and 3) the search pages have some sweet capabilities that you need to try out!

What I learned

That I have a lot more to learn!

What's next for My Yearbook Pages

Social media marketing to get the word out about it. It's fun and it's free. Repurposing it for Class reunions and other groups that want to connect and share specialized messages, updates and pictures.
