Inspiration
Being a college student, it can be difficult to communicate and connect with classmates because there is a limited time to bond and find small groups of people to study with. Additionally, if you do not find a study group at the beginning of the year, or you want to create a new study group in the middle of the year, it can be incredibly difficult to do so. Already pre-existing group chats are often too large to efficiently study and are often spammed, either by each other or bots.
What it does
Only verified college students can create an account. This allows students in the same class to be involved in active learning. Students can communicate in small groups to work on assignments and study together for exams, allowing students to expand their network among the student body.
How we built it
We created the design using Figma and used HTML to integrate said design and navigate through our program.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a lot of time as a team to agree on an idea that we could further develop for the hackathon project. This resulted in less time for us to work on the main bulk of the project. The biggest challenge we ran into was implementing the message system using Twilio’s Messenger API. We attempted to interact with the Twilio API from Python, but due to our time management we were not able to handle all the errors that appeared.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were pleasantly surprised with the successful cohesion of Figma and HTML. At the beginning, it seemed doubtful that we would be able to create something that was both functional yet still cohesive with the Figma design.
What we learned
It was our first time working together as well as doing a hackathon, so our group had to learn to work together and figure out how to manage time to efficiently get work done in the short amount of time given. Also, since it was our first time using programs used in hackathons such at GitHub and Figma, we learned a lot on the technological aspects as well as UI design. Implementing both the front end and the back end using HTML and Python was also something we have never had the chance to do before, so it was overall an enriching experience.
