My study helper

Inspiration

As a student, i tried to create this project in a very custom way. my inspiration was to use my tech skills to study smarter not harder. I was based on my own experience and needs to solve the problem i had with memorization when studying, i also added some additional features to make it effective to anyone.

What it does

i made some features and mode to make it easy to navigate and well organized i have added a history side bar which i ended up removing (you can see details in the github repository), i did not like it much and didn't think it was so functional. here is the detailed explanation:

FEATURES✨️

LEARNING MODE:

• Summarize: there is an option where u can summarize the text or file u uploaded so you get an overview about the topic, and find it easier to work with.
• Mindmap: this is so helpful whereby you can visualize the important part and ignore additional details, and check on them once u get a good understanding of the key concepts.
• Understand: in my opinion, this is so useful, and i rarely find it in some learning app or websites as built-in feature. I think that by asking questions u get the most out of the topic and remove uncertainties, therefor i did this feature, where you can ask questions and you get answers.

PRACTICE MODE:

• FlashCards: A famous way to get definitions and key concepts memorized, i think it is functional and helps memorize long-term, so having flashcards as a feature where u can get them automatically instead of manually writing each one is a good think to have.
• MCQ: this makes it easier to answer to questions even if you didn't memorize the topic well yet, because there is the answer whithin the choices so you can easly spot it.
• Q&A: A more advanced feature, to get this you should have a better understanding of the topic. Done so you can change practice exericeses as you progress. ## How we built it i built it with the following stack:
  • App Framework: Streamlit (for UI and backend logic)
  • AI Engine: Meta Llama 3.1 (accessed via Hugging Face Inference API)
  • Environment Management: python-dotenv (to securely load API tokens)
  • Language: Python

Challenges we ran into

the API, i tried and switched API several times to be able to find the perfect one for the project's situation and case. i kept seeing some errors that were sort of new to me. it was a good experience because this project introduced new topics and tools that are so useful. when it comes to coding, most topics were new, so i got AI assistant to help me write, debug and learn. funny how AI helped me use AI to solve an other problem.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am so proud to be able to create the type of study tools i always wanted to have, and that i looked for and couldn't find, i got to create my own and cover my own needs. And maybe because i am a student and was based on a true and custom experience i think that this project will help others and not only me.

What we learned

This project introduced some very useful tools, which i will probably use and study furthermore if needed, it thought me to take action instead of waiting for the perfect moment, and more things that maybe i didn't even notice yet, because not much time has passed since i finished the project.

What's next for My study helper

I may add some more features and make it more stylish, but for now i think the minimalist style suits it, it covers enough needs. Thus if while studying, i faced a challenge of some sort i may come back and add a solution to this challenge.
