Inspiration
Debt is one of the most personal things a person carries. My Snowball was designed so people can build a complete payoff plan without signing in, connecting a bank account, or sending their financial information anywhere.
What it does
My Snowball is a debt payoff planner built around the Snowball method. You list your debts, make the minimum payment on each one, put any extra amount toward the smallest balance, and roll that payment into the next debt once it is paid off.
The app turns those numbers into a clear month by month plan, showing your estimated payoff date, projected interest savings, and progress along the way.
Every payoff plan is created on your device. You do not need an account or a bank connection to get started, and the financial information you enter stays on your device.
How I built it
I run a small studio called Eden Apps, and I build with AI agents as my technical teammates. We design, build, and test together, and we make decisions together.
My Snowball shares a core with the three sibling apps it launched alongside, including pdf-lib for documents and Capacitor for iOS, while keeping its own purpose and visual identity. RevenueCat manages the one-time Pro purchase through Apple, and Restore Purchases lets someone restore Pro on another device using their Apple Account without creating an account with My Snowball.
Challenges I ran into
Building paid software without requiring an account meant the restore experience needed careful attention. On iPhone and iPad, the Pro purchase is tied to the person’s Apple Account, so I tested the purchase and restore flow under different conditions, including network interruptions, and made improvements where the experience needed to be clearer or more reliable.
The goal was to keep purchasing separate from the financial information inside the app. Someone can restore their purchase without creating a My Snowball account or sending their debt information anywhere.
Accomplishments I'm proud of
One of the things I am proudest of is that My Snowball can keep working without depending on a connection. Your payoff plan lives on your device, so once it is there, you can continue working with it even in Airplane Mode.
There is no subscription and no account to maintain. Pro is a one-time $9.99 purchase.
What I learned
Building My Snowball taught me how much the way information is presented can change how manageable it feels. Breaking a payoff plan into months made something that can feel complicated much easier to follow. I also learned how important it is to build new features around the experience, so the app can keep growing while still feeling clear and easy to use.
What's next
My Snowball has already had a couple of updates focused on reliability and clearer wording. From here, I want to keep improving the experience and add more ways to explore a payoff plan, especially as I learn what people find most useful.
