Inspiration

My-Security was inspired by a personal experience that made us realize how difficult it can be for a family to find important information when someone is suddenly no longer available.

Important information is often scattered across bank documents, insurance policies, property papers, emails, phones, WhatsApp messages, notebooks, and different cloud storage platforms. The information may exist, but family members may not know where it is, what it contains, or how to access it when they need it most.

The idea behind My-Security is simple:

If something happens to me, my family should not have to search everywhere to find what they need.

We wanted to build a digital safety net that helps individuals organize important family information today and make it accessible to the right people when it matters.

What it does

My-Security is a digital family legacy and information management platform designed to help individuals organize and manage important information for themselves and their families.

Users can:

  • Organize important family information by subject.
  • Connect relevant documents and information.
  • Keep information associated with important people and family matters.
  • Designate trusted nominees who may need access in the future.
  • Use existing cloud storage rather than being forced into a new storage ecosystem.
  • Keep control of their underlying documents while using My-Security as an organization and intelligence layer.

A key principle is no vendor lock-in.

Users can continue using storage services they already trust, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Zoho. My-Security is designed to help organize and make that information useful without requiring users to surrender ownership of their documents.

The long-term vision is to make the platform intelligent enough to answer questions such as:

"Where is my insurance policy?"

"What important documents do I have?"

"What information would my family need if I were unavailable?"

How we built it

We started by focusing on the core user journey rather than trying to build a large enterprise platform from day one.

The prototype was built as a web application with a simple workflow:

  1. Create an account.
  2. Organize important information into meaningful categories.
  3. Add people and relevant information.
  4. Connect documents and storage sources.
  5. Designate trusted nominees.
  6. Provide controlled access to authorized people when required.

We designed the architecture around the idea that My-Security should not necessarily own the user's files.

Instead, external storage providers can remain the source of truth for documents while My-Security provides the organization, metadata, access logic, and intelligence layer around them.

We also explored how AI could eventually enhance the platform through document classification, information extraction, semantic search, summarization, reminders, and intelligent question answering.

Challenges we ran into

Security vs. accessibility

The information managed by My-Security can be highly sensitive. We needed to think carefully about authentication, authorization, privacy, and nominee access while still keeping the experience simple enough for non-technical users.

The "when I'm not available" problem

Most applications assume the account owner is always available to authenticate and provide access.

My-Security has a fundamentally different use case.

We had to think about what happens when the person who owns the information cannot provide access themselves.

Designing a responsible digital-legacy and nominee experience was one of the most challenging parts of the project.

Avoiding vendor lock-in

We did not want to create another platform where users have to upload everything into one proprietary ecosystem.

We wanted users to retain control of their documents and continue using storage platforms they already trust.

Building a meaningful MVP

There are many features we could build, but we had to prioritize the workflows that demonstrate the core value of My-Security.

The challenge was to build enough of the experience to demonstrate the concept while keeping the product simple.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment is turning a very personal and emotional problem into a working product concept.

We are proud that My-Security is not simply another document-storage application.

Our focus is on the information around the documents—who needs it, why it matters, where it is stored, and what happens when the owner is no longer available.

We are particularly proud of three ideas:

1. Digital legacy as a first-class use case

Instead of treating legacy access as an afterthought, My-Security makes it part of the product's core design.

2. No vendor lock-in

Users should not have to migrate all their documents just to benefit from better organization and intelligence.

3. Building for real families

The product is intentionally designed around a real-world question:

Can my family find what they need when I am not there to explain it?

That question keeps the product grounded in a meaningful problem rather than simply adding technology for technology's sake.

What we learned

We learned that solving a security problem is not only about encryption or authentication.

It is also about trust, ownership, access, and human behavior.

We learned that:

  • Security must be balanced with usability.
  • Sensitive information needs clear ownership and access boundaries.
  • Digital legacy is different from traditional document management.
  • Vendor lock-in can become a significant concern when dealing with personal information.
  • The best user experience may be one where users don't need to understand the underlying technology.
  • AI can add significant value when it helps people discover and understand information rather than simply generating content.

Most importantly, we learned that the real product is not the storage.

The real product is confidence that important information will be available to the right people when it matters.

What's next for my-security.app

The current prototype is the beginning.

Our next phase is to strengthen the security, access-control, storage integrations, and nominee workflows and move toward a production-ready platform.

We also want to introduce an AI-powered intelligence layer capable of:

  • Automatically classifying documents.
  • Extracting important information from documents.
  • Detecting missing or expired documents.
  • Creating summaries of important family and financial information.
  • Providing semantic search across connected information.
  • Answering questions based on authorized information.
  • Reminding users about renewals and important dates.
  • Identifying gaps in a user's digital legacy.
  • Helping families understand what information they may need in an emergency.

Longer term, we envision My-Security becoming a trusted digital safety net for families—connecting information, documents, people, and AI while keeping users in control of their data.

Our goal is simple:

Your information. Your legacy. Always accessible to the people who matter.
