My Scary Pony

Inspiration

I really enjoy making games in Java, and my teacher really likes funny gory stuff, so I was inspired by him to make a funny, gory, weird game based on My Little Pony

What it does

It's a really fun shooter game based on the My Little Pony series -- but with a twist! It's spooky and there are zombies Ogres to be killed!

How we built it

Using VS code, I spent countless hours enraptured by this project. I mostly went back and forth between youtube, stack overflow, and many other websites to find the syntax that would bring my ideas to life.

Challenges we ran into

I struggled to find the right library to play audio, but after a couple of tries, I finally found a method that worked really well! I also struggled to make sprites in Java for a while, since the spacing or timing would always be off. But I persevered and I was able to find the perfect combination of spacing and timing to get the sprites to appear as I wanted them to.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a 16-year-old girl who is fairly new to the realm of coding, I would like to say that I'm very proud of myself for creating a game that I find extremely entertaining! This was my first large coding project, which I honestly poured my heart into, and I had a lot of fun making it!

What we learned

I learned about tons of different libraries in Java, and a lot about GUI in Java. But more importantly, I learned a huge lesson on perseverance. There were so many times when I felt like I should abandon an idea I had because it seemed too hard to figure out. But, I chose to stick with my original ideas and I was able to make them work!
