Especially during a pandemic, we realize the importance of planning and being prepared. During such times, it is essential to limit outside exposure to ensure the safety of everyone. Currently, the only necessity to leave your house is to buy food. As a result of this, we came up with an app to make buying groceries easier.
What it does
Our app allows users to plan out meals for future weeks and the app will generate a list. As meals are made, the user must input that into the app, through an easy drag and drop system, and the app will subtract the ingredients in that meal from the total groceries purchased. Once there is limited ingredients to make another meal, the app will warn the user to plan the next weeks and generate another grocery list.
How I built it
We built this app using Java and eclipse photon.
Challenges I ran into
Time was a huge constraint for us, although we were able to do the backend code, we weren't able to fully finish the front end and layout of the app. However we found various quicker softwares to develop an idea of how we wanted our app to look.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Even with the time constraint and the pressure we were able to develop a working idea and code parts of it. I think this in itself is a huge accomplishment especially with beginner hackers.
What I learned
I learned the importance of time management, collaboration, and communication. It was essential to plan out your time, set goals, and communicate with your team members to ensure a happy group and successful product.
What's next for My Safe Plan
This is an app which can be used regularly (regardless of a pandemic). This app had a lot of room for improvements and additions. We can add nutrition labels and ensure users are eating healthy, or when there is limited supply of ingredients, the app can suggest certain recipes or meal ideas. This app is open
