Inspiration

This book is inspired by conversations my husband and I had with our seven-year-old daughter Eva about the coronavirus pandemic. Eva’s drawings comprise the illustrations. We hope children and their families become more aware of the ways to prevent the virus’ spread and wish everyone health and safety.

What it does

The book provides age-appropriate explanations to pertinent questions related to the coronavirus pandemic and the world-wide quarantine.

How I built it

I wrote the story while my daughter worked on the drawings that would comprise the book's illustrations. My husband put it all together with his computer and Photoshop skills.

Challenges I ran into

Being a native Russian speaker and writer, it is still sometimes a challenge for me to put my thoughts down in a foreign language. Also, juggling teaching online music classes, homeschooling my 7-year-old and tending to my 1-year-old all the while, was challenge enough! I made it happen during late nights when everyone was quietly asleep.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm so happy that my whole family was involved in making this book happen.

What I learned

Always working on my priorities and organization! I learned to let go of some of my plans and expectations.

What's next for My Morning Quarantined

My hope is that the more children and families read our book, the bigger impact we can have to curb the spread of this pandemic.
