Dileeli Al-Dawaii
Your smart guide to accessible medicines and pharmacies Field: Medical | Healthcare | e-Pharmacy | Digital Health
Inspiration
We didn’t start this project in a lab or classroom; it started with pain. Real pain.
One of our neighbors in Sudan, an elderly woman, was given a new medicine. But no one explained how to use it. There were no pharmacies nearby, the clinic had closed, and her children were too scared to leave the house because of the fighting. She guessed the dose and ended up in the hospital.
This wasn’t just one story. It was everywhere. People sharing expired pills. Mothers confused about inhalers. Men with wounds using the wrong creams. In war, access to healthcare becomes a privilege. But we believe clarity, safety, and dignity in health should be a right.
That’s why we built Dileeli Al-Dawaii to be a small, digital light in a time of confusion and fear.
What it Does
Dileeli Al-Dawaii is an innovative digital platform engineered to bridge this critical gap. It empowers patients, even in conflict-affected zones, to:
- Access Trusted Information: Find reliable guidance on medications and medical tools.
- Consult Certified Pharmacists: Directly ask questions to verified pharmacists in Arabic or English, receiving personalized responses for chronic disease inquiries.
- Utilize a Smart Bot: Obtain instant answers to general medication questions via an AI-powered chatbot, offering 24/7 support.
- Navigate Acute Conditions: Access guidelines for common acute health issues like diarrhea and malaria.
Pharmacists can efficiently review and respond to patient inquiries, while an administrative dashboard ensures rigorous oversight, including pharmacist account approval and content management.
How We Built It
Developed with a lean budget but a strong commitment, Dileeli Al-Dawaii prioritizes accessibility and user experience in challenging environments:
- The frontend is built with HTML and Tailwind CSS, optimized for weak internet connections.
- Firebase serves as the backend, utilizing JavaScript for secure data storage (patient inquiries, medication details) and user authentication.
- We emphasized an Arabic-first interface with clear, simple language.
- Every part of the system is designed to feel calm, clear, and human even in high-stress situations.
Challenges We Faced
Developing Dileeli Al-Dawaii came with many unique challenges:
- User Psychology: Designing for individuals under pressure and fear required empathy and simplicity.
- Technical Accessibility: Ensuring the platform works well with limited tech skills and low internet speed.
- Pharmacist Engagement: Finding and verifying pharmacists willing to help remotely.
- Information Integrity: Combating misinformation to earn and maintain trust.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We are proud to have:
- Delivered a Tangible Solution: Turned an idea into a working platform that addresses a critical need.
- Empowered Healthcare Professionals: Enabled pharmacists to serve their communities, even from afar.
- Humanized Digital Health: Created a platform where people feel heard, supported, and safe.
What We Learned
Throughout our journey, we’ve learned that:
- Compassion Transcends Barriers: Even in war, digital tools can bring real human support.
- Functional Design Matters: Clarity and trust are more important than fancy features.
- Information Can Save Lives: A short, correct answer can make a big difference in treatment.
- Connection Is Powerful: Bridging patients and pharmacists can change healthcare in Sudan.
What's Next for Dileeli Al-Dawaii
Our vision extends beyond the current version. Next, we plan to:
- Enable Offline Access: Support usage in areas with little or no internet.
- Integrate SMS Support: Let people submit questions via basic mobile phones.
- Expand the Medication Database: Cover more Sudanese and regional drugs.
- Grow Our Pharmacist Network: Involve more remote and displaced professionals.
- Add Audio Features: Help users with low literacy or visual impairments.
We remain committed to helping every person who silently struggles to understand their medicine.
Dileeli Al-Dawaii aims to significantly enhance the health and well-being of Sudanese communities by improving access to pharmaceutical care, raising health awareness, easing pressure on a strained system, and ensuring dignity and clarity in healthcare even in the darkest times.
