Inspiration

  • Although many people don't really concentrate on their mental health, it is one of the major leading causes of death. Research has shown that there were approximately 8 million deaths each year due to mental health issues. And many of these people may not have the right resources to cure this, for example, money to get a therapist or see a doctor. ## What it does
  • My project is a cost-free and motionless way to help prevent your mental health from getting worse. It helps those in need when they want a self-paced, calm, interactive mental health therapy. Also, it has personalized comments for each one of the emotions, helping users feel more valued. ## How we built it
  • I used a programming platform called Scratch, which is block-based. Using Scratch, I tried to make the user's experience go as smoothly as possible. I designed the project to match the theme to each of the emotions to help the users get a comfortable and connected experience. ## Challenges we ran into
  • Some challenges that I ran into were ways to include the to-do lists of each emotion. At the beginning, I tried to code it and ask the user each time if they would like to do this activity, and if they say no, it would have moved on to the next one. However, I found that this would be inconvenient for the user. As a result, I had to use other sites and transform them from scratch for each one of the emotions. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • As someone who wants to try and go above and beyond, I felt like it was a bit hard for me to use Scratch, as it is much easier to code instead of drag & drop block codes. I tried my very best to make this a really good project, and along with this, I am very happy that I was able to finish this in under a week. Both of these are something that I am very proud of. Ultimately, I wish to work more with Scratch as I've done only a couple of projects before. ## What we learned
  • In my project, I have written a lot of code; however, at the end, I felt like that was not enough. I thought about how some of my work, which is very important to this project (to-do lists, backgrounds), was done in Google Slides. Along with this, I was unsure of the tools that I used, as I was able to only use block code in Scratch. After a moment of reflection, I remembered the quote by Ralph Lauren, "A lot of hard work is hidden behind nice things." This quote, along with this other quote by Colin Powell, "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." Both of these quotes mean a lot to me, as I felt like the project wasn't made with advanced tools at first, but then I realized what matters the most is that I have worked really hard on something that could help many others. ## What's next for Exercising the Emotions
  • I want to keep improving my project by adjusting it. In the future, I would like this to inspire me to explore my interests more deeply and create more projects using Scratch.
