My Learning Adventure

Inspiration

For this project I was racking my brain for the better part of a week to figure out a innovative use for AI that wasn't just another assistant. I also wanted to create a project that did some "good" for the world and tried to help improve things around me. I was inspired by educational games that I used to play as a kid. I saw an image for the old game "Clue Finders" and thought what if that could be tailored to what each kid cared about.

What it does

It takes a child's interests and subjects they want to learn in and creates unique stories to help encourage and test learning in those subjects. The stories are each uniquely generate along with a "sidekick" character to make the story come to life. The stories are also accompanied by background images to help engage the child's imagination and make learning more interesting.

How we built it

I used Base44 for building the platform, and ElevenLabs and ChatGPT to help generate some of the background images.

Challenges we ran into

Trying to ensure that background images were properly attributed to each story chapter was a bit of an issue, but was overcome by generating new unique images when the library of background images fails to cover what the child was looking for. In addition questions were regularly improperly indexed or just had wrong answers as a whole.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that the stories are able to be unique to each child and the fact that the system appears to use a "leveling" based system to ensure that the questions the child is being asked are challenging to them while not being obscenely difficult. I'm also proud to say that I was able to build this system on my own, with a lot of help from Base44, as it'll be the first project I've built outside of a school requirement that I'm proud of it's purposed.

What we learned

I learned that background images can be generalized to a high degree so they can be used in a variety of situations, but at the same time that leads to a lot of overlap where the image would appear to work, but are unable to. I'd also make sure that the LLM I'm using is more meant for the task, aka Claude is quite slow.

What's next for My Learning Adventure

If I can get the question system working with higher level education questions I'd love to see the system be able to expand in to Middle/High schools. I'd also love to expand the system so that a teacher can use it to help track students progress and see what subjects individuals as well as the class as the whole could use help in. I also want to create a system that'll allow for background images and story outlines to be created semi-continuously so that story generation time will go down for the kids.
