Inspiration
Over 80% of everyday citizens and small shop owners in Rwanda are completely cut off from legal security because traditional law firms demand massive upfront cash retainers of around 500,000 RWF. At the same time, local independent advocates waste up to 40% of their unbilled weekly capacity doing basic client intake and paperwork by hand. We were inspired to bridge this massive "justice gap" by creating a tool that makes finding legal help as simple, familiar, and affordable as sending a daily text message.

What it does
MyJudicial is an interactive, two-sided legal marketplace embedded directly inside WhatsApp.
PDF For Citizens: It turns a mobile phone into an automated legal assistant where users can tap simple choice menus or send instant Kinyarwanda voice notes to get their legal problems categorized and matched with a lawyer.
PDF For Lawyers: It delivers pre-screened, pre-scoped client leads straight to their dashboard in exchange for a 15% platform commission fee.
PDF For Safety: It protects both parties using a secure Mobile Money escrow system that releases funds automatically only when the digital legal consultation is completed successfully.
PDF How we built it To keep our platform fast and highly affordable, we deliberately skipped heavy, expensive server frameworks in favor of a lightweight, multi-cloud setup using compiled Go, TypeScript, and C++ nodes. The Interface: Built using conversational WhatsApp business scripts and interactive tap-reply workflows.
PDF The AI Engine: Powered by private, self-hosted open-source language models (Whisper.cpp and Ollama) to transcribe and understand local Kinyarwanda dialects smoothly.
PDF The Financial Layer: Driven by automated mobile telecom network integrations that handle USSD-based Mobile Money escrow holding and automated 15% fee splits.
PDF Challenges we ran into Our biggest hurdle was keeping server infrastructure hosting costs down while processing complex AI data like voice-to-text audio files. Traditional setups would bleed capital quickly, hurting our unit economics. We solved this by strictly optimizing our backend code to run entirely within highly isolated, free-tier cloud containers that scale down to absolute zero when not in use, allowing us to maintain a stable $0/month hosting baseline.
PDF Accomplishments that we're proud of Unmatched Cost Efficiency: We proved that our platform can scale to handle an initial target of 50,000 active user interactions while maintaining an exceptional LTV:CAC profit floor above 5:1.
PDF Localization: Successfully running a private, low-latency voice model that accurately processes Kinyarwanda dialects locally without sending sensitive user information to expensive, third-party foreign APIs.
PDF Zero Retention Friction: Keeping the platform permanently free to join for both local lawyers and clients, ensuring zero entry barriers for the community.
PDF What we learned We learned that founders do not need bloated, expensive technology stacks to build highly scalable products for African ecosystems. By understanding the exact digital channels our target market uses every day (WhatsApp and Mobile Money) and matching them with optimized, lightweight backend code, we can solve real-world compliance and institutional problems efficiently.
