Inspiration: A Two-Year Loss
Every great product starts with a "What if?" For me, Thanh Dat, that question is personal.
At 18, I was a lost high school student in Vietnam, paralyzed by the weight of a choice I wasn't ready to make. I followed a path that wasn't mine, spending two years at the Vietnam Aviation Academy. I was working hard, but I was working in the wrong direction. It took a deep, often painful journey of self-discovery to realize my true calling: Software Engineering.
Now, at 25, I look back and wonder: If I had a roadmap back then—one that understood my personality and my unique "energy"—how much more "brightly" could I have shone? I see thousands of 17 and 18-year-olds today facing that same fog of uncertainty. They are told to work hard, but they aren't told where to aim. MyIkigai was born from the belief that choice is just as important as effort.
What it does
How we built it
MyIkigai is designed as a Life Operating System. I wanted to bridge the gap between "Logic" (Psychology) and "Destiny" (Astrology) to create something actionable.
The Brain: I used agent.tinyfish.ai to build a custom AI Agent that acts as a "Life Architect." It doesn't just read data; it synthesizes the contradictions between an INTJ profile and a Scorpio's planetary alignment.
The Skeleton: Built with Next.js and TypeScript for a blazing-fast, type-safe user experience.
The Heart: Supabase handles the complex relational data of user profiles and generated roadmaps.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was Data Synthesis. How do you take the binary logic of a programming language and use it to interpret the fluid, often subjective nature of Astrology?
I had to engineer prompts that forced the AI to look for synergy rather than conflict. I learned that "Software Engineering" isn't just about writing code; it's about building bridges between different ways of understanding the human experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
I realized that my two-year "mistake" wasn't a waste—it was the domain knowledge I needed to build MyIkigai.
I learned that technology is at its most powerful when it scales human empathy. By providing a personal roadmap early, we aren't just helping kids choose a major; we are helping corporations and universities design environments where the "Right Person" is always in the "Right Place."
What's next for My Ikigai
We want to bring MyIkigai to where it's needed most:
- EdTech for Schools: Partnering with high schools to provide 17-year-olds with "MyIkigai for Students," preventing the costly "two-year detour" I experienced myself.
- B2B HR Solutions: Helping companies place talent not just based on resumes, but on Ikigai Alignment. We define the Retention Factor (R) as: R = Skills + Passion + Market Demand
