Inspiration

We are distraught by how chaos in hospitals affects patients. For Evelyn, her grandma was in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic's start, during which it was difficult to see loved ones and contact health professionals. Because she and her family could not keep track of what was going on, they were uninformed and afraid. For Elise, the medical referrals were overwhelming and it was hard to keep up with the recommendations.

Purpose

With My Health Tracker, patients can store and access information from a variety of doctors! We also encourage healthy behavior, with accessible resources and tips scattered across our website. Furthermore, My Health Tracker is useful for those who are underprivileged, mainly those of color and low socioeconomic status. Most dislike heading over to the doctor since their insurance may not cover the expenses, or they don't want to miss work to get their problems checked out since they’ll have to miss a paycheck. And so, they may use the tracker to track the progression of their illnesses. That way, the doctors can have a complete understanding of the situation.

What it does

My Health Tracker uses a login system to differentiate pages between a public and private view. After you log in, you can see jokes, activities, and links to help you cope with loss. With the My Health Tracker suite, you can access a calendar to schedule and reschedule appointments, as well as places to write down notes, remember questions to ask medical professionals, goals for your health journey, and achievements that helped you get to where you are today. Furthermore, there is a mood tracker to track how you are feeling on a day-to-day basis. If you have not been feeling well for an extended period of time, the webpage will redirect you to the NIMH website, encouraging you to seek help. There are also links to making yourself feel better under the mood buttons. Scroll on to the right and you will find Kid's Corner, a page dedicated to resources for kids to stay healthy! You can also choose to see your account, go to the about us page, or log out. In summary: My Health Tracker is a brilliant way for all people to track down their notes, appointments, questions, goals, and achievements before they forget! It's also a way to improve mental health and encourage those in a low spot to seek help.

How we built it

We decided to use Qoom, since there is an efficient collaborate mode on it. We also used Microsoft Paint to edit or draw images.

Challenges we ran into

We had many, many good ideas, but too little time to accomplish them. We also have limited experience and knowledge in JavaScript, so it was difficult to use the databases in Qoom with JSON and all. We had to stringify the JSON object, and then parse it into a JSON array, before the consumer could see what was going on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning how to use and troubleshooting the logout function was a big accomplishment for us! An enormous accomplishment was using the database to save the users' information, so their notes, questions, goals, achievements, and everything else could be saved.

What we learned

We learned a lot more about JavaScript and about how to use Qoom, which is a pretty revolutionary editor that helped us do some really cool stuff with logins and account databases.

What's next for My Health Tracker

We'd like to offer resources for kids, tweens, and teens, so they can better understand some common illnesses. We'd also like to differentiate between child and adult accounts, offering more personalized tracking and resources.
