Inspiration

Many individuals believe physical health is standardized, and that the same workout or nutrition plan will work for everyone. They’re overwhelmed with contradictory information that isn’t tailored to their needs. The Instagram model they follow says that consuming more than 1200 calories a day or not doing cardio will make you bulky. The fitness influencer on TV says that anything under 3,000 calories is meant for children and that you won’t see results unless you work out two hours a day, six days a week. As a result of this perhaps overabundance of information and lack of personalization, many people try out diets or exercises that don’t work for their body, and may feel defeated or fatigued. They may even give up on trying to live a healthier lifestyle.

We created this app with the objective of providing everyone with high-quality, individualized information and resources to help them achieve their fitness goals.

What it does

Our website personalizes people’s health data in an easy to use format. Users that are looking to lead healthier lives input their age, gender, and fitness goals, whether that be to build muscle, lose weight, or just improve their physical health. Then, the web app performs calculations based on government issued dietary guidelines to find the perfect water intake amount, sleep amount, and calorie intake for every person. The exercises are handpicked by a qualified member of our team, and are personalized to every unique goal with your age taken into consideration.

How we built it

We build this project on Replit using CSS, HTML, and Javascript, with the aid of Stackoverflow and Office Hours. We researched data from several reliable sources about nutritional, sleep, and exercise needs as they relate to age, gender, weight, and goals.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some issues with our JavaScript submit button taking users to the results page. Until we fixed our code, it would only take users to the page if they entered invalid numbers for their age and weight. We also struggled with erasing the text in the homepage to display the calculated nutritional needs after the submit button was clicked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coding the results page after the submit button is clicked. It took us a while to figure out how to erase the previous text and display the new calculated information.

What we learned

Each member of the team improved on their HTML, CSS, and Javascript skills. We learned to use Javascript functions and integrate the three coding languages together. In addition, we learned to efficiently work together as a team to complete the project in time.

What's next for MyHealthHaven

We hope to expand MyHealthHaven and make it mobile as well, so we can help more people learn about what is best for their specific body to meet their specific goals. We would also like to partner with licensed physicians to provide more accurate information on a broader range of health information, such as macro and micro nutrients.
