Inspiration
I was heavily inspired by the fact that every time I go to the grocery store, I always forget an item. This application will allow me to not forget any items anymore.
What it does
This application stores items that you create. If I am visiting a grocery store, I can list all my items on here and its price, and simple pick them out when I am finally visiting the grocery store.
How I built it
I built this application using Ruby On rails, postgresql, custom API, and ActiveRecord for my backend. I used JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for my frontend.
Challenges I ran into
I had some personal challenges like simultaneously trying to deal with my beautiful 6-month old daughter while trying to code. I initially was going to deploy on Heroku but time is cutting short! Some other challenges I had was using fastapi. I had to dig into my data more when doing fetch requests. Nevertheless, it was cool to use and see what I will use more or less in my future projects.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
The accomplishment I'm proud was making a functioning app in only 48 hours. If this was Mariah from the past, it would have taken me 2 weeks. Doing this project has allowed me to see some slow, but important growth as a software engineer.
What I learned
I learned time management can definitely get the job done.
What's next for My Grocery List
Create better functionality. For example, when quantity goes up, perhaps, I will make a total price p tag. Some other functionality includes creating users. I could also create a category filter as well so when customers shop they can filter by the aisles like produce (fruit, vegetables), grains, cereal, beverages, etc
