my Global Hack Week Discord Bot

Inspiration

My inspiration was Jacklyn from MLH, very fun explanation

What it does

The bot is pretty simple, it runs four command as for now.

1: /hehe

2: !behave @user_name [message]

3: !upcoming_events

4: !owner

How we built it

We used crawler and Discord API integrations to create a discord Bot using Autocode. It uses MLH website for web scraping of some data.

Challenges we ran into

while creating an embed, that displays all the ongoing hackathons, I faced problems traversing 2D arrays, which I eventually resolved and I faced problems understanding AutoCode since it is my first creating a discord bot.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I made the bot I wanted to :D. it is even helpful, gives the list of all the ongoing and upcoming hackathons on MLH website.

What we learned

Hoe APIs work, how discord developer's mode gives us access to additional features like selecting a specific channel through its id, how web-scraping works, how to traverse through 2D array using JavaScript. many more. biggest thing I gained is confidence.

What's next for my Global Hack Week Discord Bot

I am going to make it my primary discord bot at my own channel. It will profile a large amount of information from many websites like MLH and others.
