Inspiration
We wanted to create a relaxing but engaging management game based on an everyday place: a gas station. Our goal was to turn a familiar roadside stop into a growing business where every decision matters.
What it does
My Gas Station: Idle Tycoon lets players build and manage their own gas station empire. Players set fuel prices, order supplies, serve customers, upgrade pumps, hire staff, open new services, and expand to new locations.
How we built it
The project was initially developed as a web-based game. We then created a native iOS wrapper around the web version to make it available as a mobile application. Development was supported by OpenAI Codex and Claude. We also integrated advertising and added the ability to purchase in-game tokens through RevenueCat.
Challenges we ran into
The most difficult challenge was creating the traffic system. Cars could cause traffic jams, get stuck, or become confused while navigating the roads. We had to improve the pathfinding, queue management, and road logic to make vehicle movement feel natural and reliable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created a complete playable management loop with a native 3D station, multiple fuel types, services such as a café, car wash, store, tire shop, and EV charging, as well as staff hiring, marketing, upgrades, achievements, and expansion.
What we learned
We learned how to create engaging gameplay, design and balance an in-game economy, and adapt web games for iOS devices. We also learned how to combine different game systems into a cohesive management experience.
What's next for My Gas Station: Idle Tycoon
Next, we plan to improve balancing and performance, add more station layouts, vehicles, events, upgrades, and customization options. We also want to add more achievements, expand the progression system, and further polish the experience for release.
