What it does
The program estimates co2 emission of recipes that generated using OpenAI Api in hopes for researches and raising awareness for lowering co2 emissions.
How we built it
We scrape the data from: http://www.foodemissions.com/foodemissions/Calculator where it contains all the necessary data for co2 emissions of production and transportation. We saved the data under excel form for practicing reading files and translate it into data structure to work with the back end. We build the project with React as front end for UI/UX, Java Script and Python as back end where we calculate the total co2 emissions of the recipe.
Challenges we ran into
- Learning to use Chat GPT API
- Without a server we could not parse the data from a live website (“CHAT GPT”)
- Trying to connect the front end with the back end (javascript - python)
- Limited knowledge on data scraping
- Learned Java Script in a time limit
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Everything!
What we learned
- learn to use OpenAI api
- basic Java Script
- reading files and translate it into data structure
- data scraping
What's next for My FoodPrint
- Improve on the co2 emissions measurement for transportation
- Make the program more efficient
- Make better connection with back end and front end
