Accessing proper health care services have for over the past few years been a major challenge to most patients in my region and the nation as a whole. While serving as a volunteer at the Regional Hospital of Bamenda in 2020, I discovered the loopholes and shortcomings in the current health ecosystem ranging from the constant loss of health data, large queue at most hospitals with different priorities and inaccessibility of doctors during emergencies.
These challenges birthed the concept of My E health. My E health is a software built purposely to facilitate the efficient management of health care information and work completion of health care providers. It aids in the registration of patient’s data, record and retains the patient’s medical history, treatment need, past visit details, planned appointment, reports, insurance information and more. My E health reduces the requirement for these details to be obtained at each visit to the health center.
My E health was built using Codeigniter, PHP, mysl and javascript.
The challenges we faced while building this software was making the different modules compatible to work with each other. Right at the level of the database, we were creating and rearranging the structure of the database to match the information and the requirements given to us by the hospital staff we were working with. This made us to do the work over and over again.
My E health has been tested in 3 different hospitals and proven to have great potentials of significantly solving loopholes currently being experienced in the health ecosystem in Cameroon.
We are currently working on integrating an sms module into My E health so that it would not just be internet reliant and also an AI module that will conduct basic consulations and provide first aid.
