Inspiration
I was scrolling through twitter, and I kept coming across threads of people sharing their experience having or recovering from COVID-19. These tweets would get hundreds of replies from people across the world. I could see that Twitter was an informal support network for individuals dealing with the pandemic. I checked to see if there were any apps that specifically supported people that are going through COVID-19, or that have a loved one going through COVID-19, but didn't find anything. During the pandemic, when people can no longer physically access their support networks, an app that offers social support groups and encouragement can be a tool for maintaining mental health and wellbeing.
What it does
A social media platform that allows users to join different communities (channels) based on the topic they want to discuss related to COVID-19 (i.e. recovering, recently diagnosed, grieving). Users can post their stories, respond to others' posts and share advice and support.
How we built it
We're using stream (getstream.io) chat api's in both front end as well as backend. Stream Rapidly deploy chat messaging with an industry leading 99.999% uptime SLA guarantee. For front end we have angular 8 and for backend we are using nodejs.
Challenges we ran into
Due to time constraints, we have used only unique username to login and authorization. For extra features, we'll add proper authentication and avatar images to the users and we'll add different images to different channels.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a social media app! Social media apps are huge these days, and learning how to create one is great knowledge.
