Inspiration

The need to provide communities with a quicker and more efficient way to connect with one another through a user friendly interface and record messages through Google Home.

What it does

Connects communities within a 2km radius through My Community, being a simple and easy to access digital replacement for physical public message boards through both Google Home and a user friend mobile application.

How we built it

We implemented the message board through Actions on Google and the mobile app through Android Studio.

Challenges we ran into

During the duration of the hackathon, we ran into several bugs during both the implementation of the mobile app through Android Studio and the message board through Actions on Google.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a user friendly application that allows users to connect with their community in a quick and convenient way with the simple use of the Google Home. Also, gaining a greater sense of comfort and familiarity with Actions on Google along with the Android Studio IDE is also another accomplishment that we're proud of.

What we learned

How to use Actions on Google to extend the Google Assistant through the implementation of My Community and how to integrate My Community into an app format through the use of the Android Studio IDE.

What's next for My Community

Better improve the interface of the My Community app and to increase the available ways for the community to interact with one another through the use of My Community. One such addition for instance would be community wide help requests for users to assist one another and therefore build a better connected and helpful community.
