Inspiration

Reflecting on my high school years, I recall the struggle I faced when choosing a career path. The absence of career counseling at my school left me uncertain about where my true passion lay. In seeking advice from adults, teachers, and classmates about their career choices, I discovered a common narrative—uncertainty was not unique to me. It was prevalent among many high school and university students, and even among adults who contemplated career changes. This realization sparked my inspiration to create a tool that could not only assist individuals in making informed career choices but also provide direction towards discovering their interests and strengths.

What it does

"My Career Coach" is an intuitive app designed to guide users through the maze of career decision-making. By inputting data such as leisure activities, personality traits, favorite subjects, preferred work settings, skills, and work values, the app synthesizes this information to recommend a variety of suitable career options, each accompanied by a brief job description. If users seek to delve deeper into a particular career suggestion, they can engage with the app's chat feature, which then generates a more detailed response, including the salary range and a glimpse into the day-to-day life of someone in that career. Additionally, the app enhances the user's visual understanding by creating images of specific job environments.

How we built it

"My Career Coach" was developed using PartyRock, a no-code app generator powered by AWS's generative AI tools. This platform allowed for rapid prototyping and iteration without the need for traditional coding, making the development process accessible and efficient.

Challenges we ran into

The challenge was minimal, mostly about getting to grips with PartyRock's functionalities. As a newcomer to AWS's generative AI suite, I spent some time with tutorials, which quickly got me up to speed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am immensely proud of creating a tool that doesn't just suggest career paths but also paints a picture of what being in those careers could look like. That's what my app offers—the chance for people to visualize themselves in different careers, and to see their future selves in their ideal work environment. This feature of "My Career Coach" taps into the power of visualization, which is a potent tool for personal and professional growth.

What we learned

Throughout the development of "My Career Coach," I learned the importance of user-centered design and the power of AI in personalizing educational experiences. I also gained insights into the complexity of career planning and the diverse factors that influence career decisions.

What's next for My Career Coach

I've got plans to make "My Career Coach" even better. I want to add more job options, make the advice from the app more personalized, and find ways to keep improving based on what users tell. My hope is to make the app a go-to helper for anyone wondering about their career path.
