## Inspiration
We watched students—including ourselves at UCL and Imperial—waste 800+ hours annually battling fragmented university systems. Ten disconnected platforms. Twenty hours lost weekly. 86% struggling with time management. Universities burning £30M+ on overlapping systems that don't talk to each other. The friction wasn't just annoying—it was crushing academic potential and mental health. We knew AI could solve this, but nobody had built the solution students actually needed.
## What it does
My Campus AI is the first academic AI concierge that truly acts, not just answers. It autonomously plans schedules, books study rooms, reserves library resources, manages deadlines, and connects every fragmented university system through a single conversational interface. Students ask "What's my day?" and our AI shows their schedule, books optimal study spaces, downloads materials, and updates their calendar—proactively, not reactively. It's an executive assistant for student life, letting them focus on learning and connecting while we handle the admin chaos.
## How we built it
We engineered a multi-agent orchestration system specifically for legacy university infrastructure. Since most university APIs expose data but not actions, we split capabilities: one agent collects and presents information, another executes tasks. Built on Amazon Nova, our architecture works even with partial/legacy systems—critical for real university deployment. We created mobile-native (not just responsive) UX because 84% of students operate mobile-first. Every design choice prioritized reducing friction, not adding features.
## Challenges we ran into
Legacy system integration was brutal—universities use decades-old APIs with inconsistent documentation. Balancing dual customer needs (students want features, universities demand security) required constant tradeoffs. Privacy considerations for accessing sensitive academic data needed careful architecture. Building true proactive AI that anticipates needs without being creepy took multiple iterations. And discovering "Campus AI" was taken mid-development forced a complete rebrand to My Campus AI.
## Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working multi-agent system that solves a £365M market opportunity. Student testimonials validated we're solving real pain. Our competitor analysis proved we're 80% cheaper and 10x more user-friendly than incumbents like Blackboard (£160K/year). We mapped a path to £8M ARR by Year 3 with break-even at month 18. Most importantly: we created something we wish existed when we were drowning in fragmented systems.
## What we learned
Demand already exists—90% of students use AI daily, they just need the right application. B2C2B strategy works: students adopt first, universities follow. Legacy systems aren't blockers with creative agent architecture. Mobile-first isn't optional—it's existential. And the biggest lesson: incremental improvements won't fix education tech. Only radical reimagining of how students interact with university infrastructure will move the needle on the £76B UK productivity crisis.
## What's next for My Campus AI
Launch free tier for our first 10,000 students to go viral organically (TikTok/Instagram campaigns). Pilot with 3 Russell Group universities to build case studies proving ROI. Hit 50,000 active students and 5 university contracts within 18 months. Expand beyond scheduling into full academic lifecycle management—assignment tracking, collaborative study groups, career services integration. Long-term vision: become the operating system for university life across the UK, then globally. We're raising £2M seed to make universities feel effortless for every student.
