Inspiration
My inspiration for this project was the issue of accessibility. I think accessibility is such an important part of Web Development, so I tried to make my website as accessible as possible using things like alt text and high contrast colors. I also tried to implement things that would motivate people, such as a script generator, which could cut the time down people take in writing a whole email by providing the framework for one.
What it does
This project is a website that can spread awareness about the issues of biodiversity and environmental justice. It has a "problem" page that identifies what the issue is, uses visuals to draw viewers in, and a fact generator and youtube embeds to support the point. There's also a solution tab that offers 4 ideas for a person to implement in their lives to aid in the cause and a script generator for people to email government officials.
How we built it
I built this website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in Replit.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge I ran into was knowing where to start. Once I created the framework though, it became a lot easier to implement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the color palette for my website and the video embeds as well as the script generator. I feel like it makes my website more coherent.
What we learned
As I constructed this website, I learned a lot more about the biodiversity and environmental justice cause. Additionally, I got to play around with CSS and learned a few skills.
What's next for My Biodiversity Website
I think I will try to add more images into the solutions page and embed more news articles! I can always improve the CSS on my website to make it look more professional as well.
