Inspiration
I wanted to build an awesome HackNJIT project!
What it does
"My Awesome HackNJIT Project" does awesome things
How I built it
I wrote a desktop app using Electron for the frontend, then on the backend used Node and express.js to call the Yelp and Twilio APIs. First, we call the Yelp API to get a list of restaurants to get alerts about. Then we use the Twilio API to send messages to the user based on the information they gave in the front-end!
Challenges I ran into
Yelp didn't want to give me API access until I said "pretty please with sugar on top".
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Begging for API access actually worked.
What I learned
Web apps are easier to write than Electron apps.
What's next for My Awesome HackNJIT Project
Mobile app?!
