Inspiration
In Angola, valuable opportunities, support services, organisations, and information about legal rights are often scattered across different websites and communication channels. This fragmentation can make it difficult for people to find reliable information and access resources that support their personal, academic, and professional development.
MVOZ+ was created to address this challenge by bringing essential information together in one accessible digital platform. Our goal is to reduce information barriers, improve access to opportunities, and connect people with resources that can make a meaningful difference in their lives, with particular attention to the challenges faced by women and underserved communities.
What it does
MVOZ+ is a digital platform that centralises opportunities, support services, organisations, and information about legal rights in Angola.
Its main features include:
- Opportunities: A directory of scholarships, job vacancies, technical training programmes, and other educational and professional opportunities.
- Support Services: Information about relevant support services and resources for people seeking assistance.
- Organisations: A directory connecting users with relevant institutions, organisations, and initiatives.
- Rights and Legal Information: Accessible information about legal rights and public services.
- Centralised Information: A unified experience that helps users discover resources that might otherwise require searching across multiple websites and communication channels.
MVOZ+ aims to simplify information discovery and help people make more informed decisions about their education, careers, and access to essential resources.
How we built it
MVOZ+ was developed using modern web technologies, with a focus on responsive design, maintainability, usability, and security.
- Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
- Backend and Database: Supabase and PostgreSQL.
- Authentication: Supabase Auth.
- User Interface: Responsive layouts and reusable components designed for desktop and mobile devices.
- Deployment: Cloud hosting with a custom domain: mvozplus.xyz.
These technologies provide the foundation for integrating different categories of information into a consistent and accessible digital experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was organising information from different sources into a centralised platform while prioritising reliability and relevance. Opportunities and public resources are often distributed across multiple websites, making them more difficult to discover.
Another challenge was balancing the different sections of the platform without overwhelming users with information. We needed to create an intuitive experience that makes it easy to navigate between opportunities, organisations, support services, and legal resources.
We also had to consider responsive design, data management, authentication, and security while building a platform that can evolve over time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed and deployed MVOZ+ as a digital solution addressing information-access challenges in Angola.
Our main accomplishment is bringing opportunities, support services, organisations, and legal information together in one platform, providing a more organised way for people to discover relevant resources.
We are also proud of the platform's potential to support women's empowerment, educational development, professional growth, and improved access to essential information.
Above all, MVOZ+ reflects our commitment to building technology that responds to local needs and creates opportunities for meaningful social impact.
What we learned
Developing MVOZ+ strengthened our understanding of full-stack web development, database integration, authentication, responsive interface design, and deployment.
We learned that building a useful digital platform involves more than writing code. Information quality, accessibility, security, usability, and an understanding of the local context are essential to creating a solution that people can trust.
The project also reinforced the importance of identifying real-world problems, prioritising users' needs, and building a foundation that can improve through feedback and future development.
What's next for MVOZ+
Our next steps include:
- Expanding the Resource Directory: Adding more relevant opportunities, support services, organisations, and public resources.
- Improving Information Quality: Strengthening source verification and improving how users identify current and reliable information.
- Building Partnerships: Exploring collaboration with educational institutions, public services, professional networks, and organisations across Angola.
- Enhancing the User Experience: Improving search, filtering, navigation, and accessibility.
- Exploring Personalisation: Investigating recommendation features that could help users discover opportunities aligned with their interests and needs.
Our long-term vision is to continue developing MVOZ+ into a valuable digital resource that connects people in Angola with opportunities, essential services, trusted organisations, and information that supports their development.
