Inspiration
As students at Mountain View High School, we think it is important that everyone has easy access to information about the campus. We feel that the lack of a definitive list of resources is a serious problem, especially for new students at the school, and thus wanted to provide a single place to learn about clubs, food, classrooms, and more.
What it does
The MVHS Logistics map provides a simple interface for new and returning students to more easily find information on a variety of campus activities. The data we collected on school events allows the website to give users real-time knowledge of the campus. Some of the many features available include searching for menu items at the cafeteria, finding the location, time, and details on clubs, and listing school-sponsored events.
How we built it
We used VueJS to build the frontend of the website. Data analysis and storage was done with JSON files and Python scripts.
Challenges we ran into
We had significant challenges with finding reliable data sources for all of the informational features of the website. Because of this, we also had some difficulty with time, but we were able to manage and complete all the details of the website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very pleased with the aesthetic of the final website we built with Vue, particularly the room highlighting feature of the map.
What we learned
We learned a lot about efficient teamwork and data sourcing. Additionally, we all greatly improved our skills and knowledge of VueJS and front-end javascript.
What's next for MVHS Logistic Map
We plan to improve the scope of the website by adding more features, such as improving the detail of existing search filters, and adding more options to discover information about the campus.
