Imporatant note
I had started this project two months back. Almost 90% of the project was done during the hackathon period.
before I had created the home page of the app. But, it was only a plain design. At that time it didn't have a neuromorphic design. I had created the react components of the home page. It does not include the complex state structure. In the end, I made changes in the state structure.
after During the hackathon, I added the add fund feature. I converted the state into react context API format. I added the graph component to the app. I converted the design into a neuromorphic design. I also add the mobile compatibility to the project .
Inspiration
My father is an insurance agent. There was always a need for an app that can help the agents to create a good agent-client relation. I wanted to create an app that would help the clients to check their portfolio
What it does
One can choose any actively traded mutual fund. It will show how the fund has performed during the investment period. One can add multiple mutual funds and check their performance.
How I built it
Firstly I went through the quandl API to check how it works. Then I created the basic outline of the app. After that, I started thinking about the charts that I was going to use. Then I decided how the state of the app was going to be. The trickiest part was to have a feature that could add new funds to the existing ones. In the end, I added a mobile responsive design.
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging part was to have a feature that could add new funds to the list. I had to convert the excel data into a JSON such that it emits the name and the code of the fund. Since html form only gives the value of the fund I had to create a separate state for the form and the html select tag. I had to merge both the state using asynchronous javascript.
Accomplishments that I proud of
This was my first proper project with such functionalities. I have gained the confidence that I can create such applications. It helped me to learn new things.
What I learned
I learned how to read the documentation of a library. I was able to create a complex state structure.
What's next for Mutual Fund Management
I wanted to convert it into an agent-clients management app. It would allow the agent to manage the portfolio of its client and would also allow the clients to view their portfolio.
