Inspiration
The inspiration for Mutify came from a simple but powerful question: What if business owners could interact with their financial data using just their voice? In today’s fast-paced world, business owners juggle countless tasks, often struggling to manage receipts, track transactions, and generate reports efficiently.
I realized that while digital transformation has made payments seamless, retrieving and verifying transactions still feels outdated—manual searches, stacks of paper receipts, and tedious record-keeping. I wanted to change that.
Mutify was born from the idea of creating an AI-powered, voice-activated financial assistant that enables business owners to instantly retrieve receipts, calculate transactions, and manage finances effortlessly.
What it does
Mutify is an AI-powered, voice-activated business assistant that helps businesses manage receipts and transactions using natural speech.
- Voice-Activated Receipt Retrieval – A business owner can simply say, “Show me last week’s receipts” or “Total transactions today”, and Mutify instantly fetches accurate results.
- QR Code-Based Receipt Verification – Customers can scan a QR code to retrieve and verify receipts securely.
- Azure-Powered Speech Recognition – Integrates with Microsoft Azure Speech-to-Text for high-accuracy voice commands.
- Real-Time Transaction Insights – Fetch total revenue, sales trends, and past transactions with simple voice commands.
With Mutify, business owners no longer have to search manually through receipts or databases—just speak, and the system does the rest.
How we built it
Mutify was built using a combination of cutting-edge technologies:
Backend: Spring Boot with Java, PostgreSQL for storing receipts and transactions
AI and Speech Recognition: Microsoft Azure Speech-to-Text API for real-time voice commands
Receipt Processing: Dynamic JSON-based receipt generation
QR Code Generation & Scanning: Allows customers to retrieve receipts securely
API Integration: RESTful API endpoints for retrieving financial data
I ensured that Mutify was fast, secure, and scalable by implementing DTOs, validation, error handling, and authentication for business accounts.
Challenges we ran into
Building Mutify wasn’t without obstacles:
Speech Recognition Accuracy – Initially, some commands weren’t being recognized correctly. I had to fine-tune Azure Speech API settings and adjust the confidence threshold for better results.
Accurate Transaction Summarization – Ensuring that revenue calculations were precise required rigorous database queries and optimization.
QR Code Integration – Making QR codes work seamlessly with receipt verification involved tweaking the API to handle different formats efficiently.
Security and Data Privacy – Since financial data is sensitive, I had to ensure strong authentication and encryption mechanisms were in place.
Through persistence and continuous testing, I overcame these hurdles, improving Mutify's performance and usability.
