Inspiration
We love music games that test memory and recognition, but most of them feel repetitive or disconnected from the music people actually enjoy. We wanted to create a game where your own Apple Music library becomes the playground—challenging you and your friends to guess songs, artists, and lyrics you already love, while also discovering new tracks.
What it does
MusicQuest is a song-guessing game powered by Apple Music.
It plays short snippets of tracks and challenges players to guess correctly before time runs out.
Players can compete with friends on Game Center leaderboards or play solo for daily challenges.
How we built it
Frontend: Swift + SwiftUI for iOS, iPadOS, and Vision Pro with seamless dark/light mode support.
Backend: None
APIs: Apple Music using MusicKit Previews.
Monetization: StoreKit 2 for subscriptions, with RevenueCat for analytics. Google AdMob for banner Ads.
Challenges we ran into
Making sure snippets play instantly while streaming from Apple Music without showing the song in the Now Playing screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a fun way to discover new music and do it in a competitive way.
What we learned
How to leverage MusicKit beyond basic playback— It also uses playlists and genres to get songs for the play session..
What's next for MusicQuest
Favorited Playlists, Most commonly played playlists, Game center achievements, animations, many more.
Influencer campaigns: Launch TikTok and Instagram UGC ads showcasing people competing with friends.
