MusicMates

Inspiration

We were inspired while visiting the OCC campus and seeing multiple flyers which showed us the need for people looking for bands and members.

What it does

It connects people within the music community to find band members or recruits. Allowing users to create their own unique profiles to get them started to find venues that hold music gigs/events near them. Users can also choose to expand their interests and find members who play different genres to collaborate together. Overall, this website can also help save user's time and does the work for them. It can also help save paper since we did see a bunch of flyers all around campus which used up materials.

How we built it

We built this program using languages such as C++, JavaScript, CSS, and Python. We compiled all languages and code into Virtual Studio Code. To test different areas and visualizations of our code we used W3schools. It provided insight to what it would look like and gives direction to change the setup of our website and how users can utilize it.

Challenges we ran into

As beginners, we struggled to understand certain concepts that we were brand new to. With the help of the workshops and mentors, we were able to retain a better understanding of the functions and roles of these languages. We were also stressed at first because we felt out of place since we didn't feel we were at a very inexperienced level.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We felt proud that we persevered until the end of the workshop and tried to take this as a learning experience. We see the potential of coding and how it peaked both of our interests. This can be taken further on different levels and can be applied into our classes, daily lives, and our own personal projects. We are most of all proud that we can call this our first official project and can take it on to see our progress eventually in our careers.

What we learned

We learned how to work better as a team and try to communicate our ideas to each other. We had to come to an understanding and agree with the final product which took time and allowed us to be better at being flexible in a team.

What's next for MusicMates

We hope to continue Music Mates and hopefully fine tune what we weren't able to include in our features currently. Hopefully, we are able to finish this as an official project that we can say we made ourselves.
