Inspiration

Over the last year, I've been experimenting with music from other artists just by choosing a single random artist at a time that I had heard about previously, adding all of their songs to a playlist, and filtering through them one by one. While Spotify does have recommendations, it isn't the most interesting to look at and can take time to filter through it all.

What it does

This visualization allows people to interact more with music from different artists, explore different genres, and search through music quickly (ideally).

How we built it

I built this app using React.

Challenges we ran into

I have no idea how to do any of this, this is my first time making a webapp and I basically taught myself how to do everything during this hackathon. React and TypeScript are stupid and I wish I had never done this to myself. Doing this by myself was also to my detriment, there was very little time to learn how to make the actual web app look nice/implement any good UI design as I don't know how and could barely get this thing functional.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As of writing this, I will be proud if I get anything working at all, especially learning how to use the Spotify API as I have never used an API before.

What we learned

I learned how to use React, and how much work goes into making a web app.

What's next for Music Explorer

Hopefully I can integrate data from other services as well, as I do want to make this a helpful tool to learn more about how music is written by incorporating details like tempo, key, etc. in song details.
