Inspiration
My inspiration was that my problem when to music is that I listen on different platforms. When I'm youtube sometimes I wish I could add a song I just heard to my Spotify. Sometimes vice versa. I also got really interested in downloading my music to stop paying for subscriptions. I dislike the current methods and ad filled websites that you have to go digging for your playlist. It's inconvenient.
What it does
My project is an extension that while you're in your browser you can just click the extension. It offers you the option to download the current song you're listening to on spotify, or to find the youtube equivalent and add it a playlist. On youtube you can save whatever video you're listening to and if it's a song then add it to spotify.
How we built it
I didn't get very far unfortunately. I used react to build the front end of the project. Currently I'm working on establishing the oauth for the extension however I'm considering switching to making the extension work locally.
Challenges we ran into
Oauth was difficult for me figure out because this was my first time trying to figure it out. I also had a really hard time trying to set up the front end because I didn't know that react was not immediately compatible for extensions on chrome.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm very proud of at least having a front end. That's more than I've had in other hackathons.
What we learned
I've learned how to set up the extension through the manifest and practiced using react more.
What's next for Music Converter
I really want the youtube to spotify to work and I want the ability to save my songs locally. That I want for sure. I also want to work on making the UI look better and feel cozier. From there I would actually like to make the spotify to youtube to work too. It's something I would like to use in my free time and this would make my listening experience so much more convenient. I also want to be able to implement the Oauth.
