Inspiration
Everyone on our small team of friends is a huge fan of listening to music while we work or play and we observed a hole in our own joint listening experience and decided to create Music Boiyo to fill that void.
What it does
Music Boiyo takes a Spotify Playlist code and through the use of YouTube search and download is able to get the audio files of the songs in the playlist. After obtaining these files the bot is able to connect the corresponding discord voice channel in your server and starts to play the songs from the original playlist for all the people in the call to hear!
How we built it
We coded the bot in Python with the use of the Spotify, Discord, YouTube Search, and YouTube Download APIs.
Challenges we ran into
The asynchronous functions used in regards to the discord side of the bot proved as a new obstacle for everyone on the team but we were able to tackle most of the bugs we faced. The use of various APIs was very nice however we had to make sure that all of the inputs and outputs of all the APIs meshed well together. With different people working on various aspects of the bot, we had to make sure our code and our communication were in sync throughout the weekend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The first time we heard the bot play a song while we were all in call was an exciting moment for everyone on the team! For most of use this is our first major hackathon and the ability to be able to participate and create a working (albeit not bugless) project was very fun and educational.
What's next for Music Boiyo
We hope to add more functionality for Music Boiyo in the future and make him a standard for at least our own server and some of our other friends' servers.
