Inspiration
I gathered my inspiration from both my fascination with mushrooms as well as my past mentor, Jon Bellini. I derived the character design from foliage, a mushroom cap and a flower petal skirt, and I chose to create her in pixel art form because I became fascinated with Jon Bellini's art work and wanted to learn the art form to create art like his one day.
What it does
Gil is a little mushroom capped girl who gets lost in these magical woods, now having to jump along floating platforms to find her way out.
How I built it
I used Aseprite to create all the art assets and Construct 3 to implement all of it.
Challenges I ran into
The challenges I ran into was that I had little to no prior knowledge of Aseprite, Constuct 3, or pixel art and animation. I thankfully was able to work through these challenges with the help of Jon Bellini.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am most proud of my work ethic that I developed along the way, as well as that I worked and tweaked the animations and other art assets until they became something I am excited to show.
What I learned
From the process of developing Mushroom Woods I learned pixel art and pixel animation.
What's next for Mushroom Woods
In the future I am going to develop Mushroom Woods into a more completed platformer consisting of multiple levels to show her progression through the woods, obstacles, and enemies that must be avoided to safely escape.
