Inspiration
Museum Mystery: The Daily Artifact was inspired by the rich history of Reddit communities and the desire to make Reddit's legacy accessible and fun for new and existing users. We wanted to create an engaging way to explore memorable moments from Reddit's past through gamification.
What It Does
Museum Mystery is a daily puzzle game where:
- Each day, a legendary Reddit post is hidden within a virtual museum
- Players explore the gallery to find artifacts
- Users solve cryptic riddles to identify the Reddit post of the day
- Players earn points and maintain daily streaks
- Community notes allow players to share their experiences
How We Built It
- Frontend: React 19 with TypeScript
- Build Tool: Vite 6
- Styling: Tailwind CSS with custom dark theme
- AI Integration: Google Gemini API for generating daily riddles and artifact descriptions
- Platform: Designed for Reddit's Devvit platform with a web demo version
Challenges We Ran Into
- API Rate Limiting: Managing Reddit API calls efficiently while generating unique daily content
- Demo Mode: Creating a seamless experience when API keys aren't available by implementing robust mock data
- Game State Management: Persisting player progress across sessions using localStorage
- Cross-Platform Deployment: Adapting the Reddit-native app to work as a standalone web demo
