Inspiration
Every group plan dies in the group chat. Someone says "we NEED to book flights," three people reply with different dates, someone drops a hotel link, someone else drops a cheaper one, and two days later the thread has 200 messages and nothing is booked. We've all been the person with 40 tabs open trying to reconcile everyone's budget by hand.
Planning apps exist, but they all ask your friends to do the one thing they won't do: download a new app and move the conversation there. We wanted the opposite. Keep the chat exactly where it is (WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram DMs) and let the planning happen around it, so the least-organized friend never has to open anything new.
What it does
NxT ("what's next?") is a decision layer for the group chats you already have, powered by an AI planner called Muse.
- Ping Muse in the chat. When the group gets stuck, anyone types something like "@Muse sort out flights, hotels and what we're doing, Mar 26 – Apr 4, under $1,300 each."
- Muse does the work in NxT. It pulls everything relevant from the request (dates, budget, cities, who's going), and uses serpAPI to run live searches for flights, hotels and places, compares the options against everyone's limits, and writes a short trade-off for each one ("$59 more than cheapest, but fits Jordan's dates").
- It builds a shared Google Drive folder. Muse writes real Google Sheets and Docs into one folder: a budget tracker, a flight comparison with votes, a day-by-day itinerary, places to go, and a decisions log.
- You get a notification that your link is ready. Share it back into the group chat in one tap.
- Everyone can use it, even without the app. The link opens straight into Google Drive, so friends who never install NxT can still see every option, price and recommendation.
If you do open the app, you get the full picture:
- Adaptive plan tabs. Muse picks the tabs from the request: a flight trip gets Flights · Stays · Do · Money, a car purchase gets Options · Numbers · Prices, a dinner gets Places · Who's in.
- Voting, with a budget meter that updates the moment the group picks an option.
- Price watch ("Honey for group bookings"). Muse re-checks prices on a schedule and only notifies you when it's actually time to book now.
- Messages and Shared tabs. Every group's chat in one place, plus reels and links people share in from Instagram and WhatsApp.
How we built it
- iOS app: Swift and SwiftUI (iOS 26), with a custom design system: mesh-gradient plan covers, the New York serif, Liquid Glass chips and spring animations. The App Group shares state between the app and its extensions.
- iMessage app (Messages framework): sends a plan as an interactive bubble. Friends vote inside the bubble, and the same message updates in place.
- Share extension: share any Instagram reel, WhatsApp message or link straight into a plan.
- Backend: Python with FastAPI and SQLite. It turns a chat request into a plan "blueprint" (which searches to run, which files to write) and streams progress to the app over Server-Sent Events, so you watch each search and file complete live.
- Live data: SerpApi for Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Shopping and web search, including Google Flights' 60-day price history for the price watch.
- AI: Muse Spark through its OpenAI-compatible API, for extracting details from messy chat text, writing option trade-offs, naming tabs, answering @Muse in the thread, and making book now / wait calls on price changes.
- Google Workspace: Drive, Sheets and Docs over REST with the narrow
drive.filescope, so NxT can only touch files it creates.
