Inspiration

Coaching is one of the highest ROI investments you can make, but most people never access it. They don't know how to find the right coach, don't have the time, or can't afford it and the same been experienced by Simon. We wanted to bring personalized coaching to everyone's pocket, making guidance accessible at the moment you need it most. Inspired by Simon's vision at BetterCreating, we set out to demystify AI agents and create something people can just open and start using, no complex setup needed.

What it does

Muse Coach is a minimalist AI coaching app with 5 specialized coaches:

Marcus (Stoic) : Uses ancient Stoic frameworks for decision-making and resilience

Aria (Productivity) : Applies Essentialism and time-blocking methods

Luna (Creative) : Draws from The Artist's Way for unlocking creativity

Sage (Wellness): Uses RAIN technique for emotional awareness

Atlas (Career): Helps with SMART goals and professional growth

How we built it

React Native + Expo (SDK 54) for cross-platform mobile development OpenAI ** GPT-4o-mini** for AI coaching responses

RevenueCat for subscription management (Free tier: 15 msgs/day, Pro: unlimited) Zustand + AsyncStorage for persistent state management

Apple Sign-In for authentication

React Navigation 7 for smooth screen transitions

Haptic feedback throughout for a premium feel

Challenges we ran into

AI response formatting : Getting coaches to sound human (not robotic) took iteration on prompts, including explicit instructions to avoid em dashes and professional jargon. -Also solved this by using React Native's built-in Animated API instead.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Zero-friction onboarding: From install to first conversation in under 30 seconds

Meaningful AI interactions: Coaches use real frameworks (Stoic decision trees, RAIN technique, Essentialism) rather than generic chatbot responses

Auto-generated wisdom:Every conversation automatically produces saved insights

Beautiful minimal design: Warm color palette, SF Pro typography, smooth animations

Full subscription flow: Working paywall, restore purchases, cross-device sync via Apple ID

What we learned

Subscription apps need to handle edge cases: restore purchases, anonymous users, trial period and also prompt engineering is an art
