Inspiration: Muse was inspired by college students who want to make friends, try new hobbies, and find creative communities on campus without spending too much money.
What it does: Muse helps students discover hobbies, join workshops, host sessions, find craft buddies, and explore creative ideas through a personalized “Inspo” feed.
How we built it: We designed Muse in Figma as a mobile-first app with five tabs: Home, Learn, Teach, Match, and Profile. The design is cozy, playful, and easy for students to use.
Challenges we ran into: One challenge was balancing learning, socializing, and safety in one app. We also wanted it to work for both beginners and students who already have skills to share.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud of creating an app that makes hobbies feel more accessible and social. We also love the “Inspo” feed, skill-matching feature, and campus-focused design.
What we learned: We learned how to design a community-centered app and build a working Figma prototype. We also learned how important it is to make students feel welcomed and encouraged.
What's next for Muse: Next, we want to add a handmade marketplace, material-sharing, and more campus partnerships. We hope to start at UCSB and grow Muse into a larger creative student community.
