Inspiration

Working out is something that comes with many challenges, especially for those who haven't been doing it for years. We know first-hand what it's like to push yourself to get some exercise and end up in pain and soreness for the next week. So we decided to design the perfect system; simple enough for anybody to use to figure out exactly what they should do today to get their work in.

What it does

This website provides a seamless approach towards accomplishing your fitness goals so you don't have to think about how you'll get there. You tell us exactly what hurts and where, and we'll curate the perfect workout so you don't have to experience the pain. And on top of that, we give you the option to choose exactly what you want your body to be like. Bulking? Cutting? Or just losing weight? No problem. We have an array of choices for what fits your goals best, and will show you exactly what workouts you need to get there. The electronic device can be downsized to fit on the user's wrist, like an electronic watch. Based on the ideal exercises prescribed by the Muscle Buddy Website, the device will plan out the order of each exercise and provide vital resting periods between sets. The device utilizes a LCD screen to tell the user which exercise to preform, how many reps of that exercise to do, and provides a guide for abduction and abduction movements. The device includes many easy-to-use features such as a buzzer to notify the user when to preform an abduction or abduction movement. It also includes a switch for the user to activate the workout, and individual exercises. Additionally, a signal light is used to identify the workout periods, and rest periods.

How we built it

The first thing we did was collaborate ideas. Once our idea was finalized, we began the planning phase on Figma. After that we started programming our application and building our hardware. We build the hardware aspect of this project using an Arduino, a breadboard, and various electronics components. Our website was

Challenges we ran into

Making a working prototype while learning the framework and mongoDB at the same time, and setting up a passable front end for testing. Time was the biggest challenge. Another challenge included using svg files for the soreness quiz because arranging them into a body included a lot of position tweaking.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our website's functionality to give exercises based off soreness level and goals of working out. And we're proud of our hardware's ability to give personalized instructions and assistance while working out.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the technologies we used and the importance of planning everything out.

What's next for Muscle Buddy

In the future we hope to add more functionality to the website by integrating the web app with our physical hardware so you can see videos of the workout and the sensors can tell you if you have proper form.
