Inspiration

We wanted to provide vulnerable societal groups with ways to socialize with others, even when they do not have the opportunity or the technical know-how to use the common channels.

What it does

MunichMatcher is a platform designed to combat loneliness by connecting individuals to events and like-minded people. The core idea is to provide a space where users can discover events and meet people, while organizations help validate user profiles to ensure safety and trustworthiness.

How we built it

  • Vue.js, Tailwind: Frontend of the website
  • Java Spring Boot: Backend development framework,
  • MongoDB: NoSQL database for handling data,
  • OpenCage Geocoder API: Address geocoding to latitude/longitude.

Challenges we ran into

The Backend and Frontend components were developed simultaneously and connecting them was an issue of what worked best for each team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Sleek design,
  • Fully functional system, both for end-users and admins managing events,
  • Implemented and integrated new system and libraries that were completely new to us.

What we learned

Teamwork, time management, different libraries and APIs.

What's next for Munich Matcher

  • Advanced recommendation algorithm for user-event matching.
  • Real-time chat for event participants.
  • Gamification features to encourage participation.
