Inspiration
We were inspired to create a website for educating students with financial terms for free because as we are entering adulthood in our life, we have realized how important it is to have a good foundation in the idea of money and wealth. We also realized how the school system do not always educate students in financial literacy, so creating an app that does it in an interactive manner is a great tool for our new generation.
What it does
Muney Jr. is a website that teaches the basic topics of finance to children around the age of twelve in an interactive manner. We essentially split our curriculum into 5 main videos which the students can watch and learn most of the information. These videos are short and are targeted specifically towards younger children. Due to this, these videos are all easy to understand and have friendly message. Additionally, we have created easy quizzes that test the knowledge of these students and explain each question and answer choice thoroughly so students can increase their knowledge through their mistakes. In addition, we also incorporated mini games in our website that teaches students investment threats, and financial decision making through the medium of a game. Finally, we also created an about us page which explains our vision and who we are.
How we built it
We essentially planned out all the pages and functions of every page and set it as our blueprint to refer to during the entire project. Next, we split up the entire workload amongst the team. For example, Aryan took the responsibility of creating all of the quizzes, the mini games, and the about us page that were used in this project. Kinh took up the responsibility of creating the homepage, the lessons page, and creating the navigation bar that connects the main website together. Braedon took the responsibility of creating favicon and the logo of our project. Together we helped create Muney Jr.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into while creating Muney Jr. was maintaining the responsiveness of the website while we resize it from full screen to any other set of pixels. We also had trouble connecting the navigation bar to every page and keeping it responsive at every page and layer of the website. Additionally, we were struggling to create an efficient flexbox model for the beautification of our website using CSS because we did not have much experience with it. However, the biggest challenge we encountered was directly and section management. Due to our website containing numerous layers, we were forced to always keep an organized array of files which was challenging as multiple people were working on it concurrently. These were some of the challenges we ran into while developing Muney Jr.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
There are many things we are proud of when it comes to the development of Muney Jr. First of all, we were able to create a fully functional website in under 24 hours despite having an incomplete and a random team. Additionally, we all communicated throughout the entire project and solved each of the challenges we ran into in an orderly manner. All of us also strengthened our Front-End development skills as our entire project was based off of Front-end Development. Lastly, we are proud that we were able to involve so many layers into our project and still create our website without any fundamental errors.
What we learned
We learned how to properly plan out a project while considering everyone's thoughts and ideas. We also gained experience debugging code that was giving issues throughout the project. We also learned to work with multiple languages and files all at the same time which we called directory management. In addition, we learned how to work under pressure and with other circumstancing issues that kept arising throughout the project. Overall, we had a great learning experience not just technically, but also with project management and how to effectively work with a group of people.
What's next for Muney Jr.
In the near future, we plan to add new videos and lessons, create more quizzes to test the students knowledge, and also include more interactive mini games for the students to have a good learning experience while playing a game. Additionally, we want to utilize CSS to beautify our website even more. Finally, once we have a working completed projected, we want to start advertising this website so real students can start using it and learn financial literacy!
