Inspiration
We realized that most digital memories focus on highlights—vacations, achievements, and big moments—while everyday life goes undocumented. We wanted to create a tool that celebrates the beauty of the ordinary and supports people in the moment, helping them stay present, energized, and appreciative of the everyday.
What it does
Mundane Mosaic lets users upload moments from their daily routines and turns them into clean, aesthetic photo strips that slowly build into a personal visual mosaic. While adding or documenting their tasks, users can also listen to music directly through the platform, turning ordinary chores into a more engaging, uplifting, and reflective ritual.
How we built it
We designed the interface in Figma and Figma Make, crafting a simple and calming flow for adding photos, previewing mosaic strips, navigating through memories, and optionally streaming music. The goal was a minimal, emotionally grounded experience that supports focus while still feeling visually rich.
Challenges we ran into
Finding the balance between calm simplicity and meaningful emotional impact was a challenge. We also experimented with layouts that could grow naturally over time without feeling cluttered, and considered how integrated music could enhance the atmosphere without overwhelming the visuals.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
We built a concept that feels heartfelt, thoughtful, and different—something that encourages users not just to capture memories, but to feel good while creating them. We’re proud of the clean visual design, the smooth emotional tone, and the integration of music as a subtle but motivating layer of experience.
What we learned
We learned how design can shape emotion, reflection, and presence even with minimal features. We found that focusing on narrative, feeling, and small sensory touches—like music—can create an experience that resonates more deeply than complex functionality.
What’s next for Mundane Mosaic
We want to explore features like optional captions, sorting by mood, date, or theme, and small reflection prompts or milestones to encourage consistency. We also aim to expand the music component with curated playlists and moods, and eventually allow users to export their mosaic as a digital or printable artifact they can keep forever.
